The Union Health Ministry raised concerns about the situation of Covid-19 in Maharashtra on Thursday during its weekly press conference, saying that Covid’s decreased testing, tracking and lack of proper conduct have led to an increase in active cases in the state.
“We are very concerned about Maharashtra. This is serious business. This has two lessons – do not take the virus for granted and if we need to stay Covid-free we must follow Covid appropriate behavior,” said Member (Health), Said NITI Aayog Dr. VK Paul.
Following a similar comment, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said Maharashtra had shown a worrying trend.
“The mutant strain was not found to be stressful in this surge in any specific cases. It is only related to reduced testing, tracking and tracing, and inappropriate behavior from Covid and large gatherings,” he said.
Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray said yesterday that tough lockdown measures are in place in some parts of the state to contain the spread of Covid-19.
