Mega Education Summit: Will the New Education Policy benefit students?

DPSG Faridabad, a leading CBSE school run under the aegis of the Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society, organized a Mega Education Summit at its campus in Sikri that saw deliberations by eminent educationists, corporate leaders and doctors on the New Education Policy and its benefits for students .

The Summit was graced by Yashpal Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Faridabad as the chief guest and was presided over by Om Pathak Ex IAS, Chairman of DPSG & SelaQui International School.

In his keynote address, Yadav said “As parents and educators, we must understand that a child is the best judge for his/her choice of career, and we should provide the maximum support in realizing the career choices of our children”. While talking about the NEP, he reiterated its four tenets- access, equity, quality and accountability.

He spoke at length about the unique curriculum design followed by DPSG schools that was put together by 650+ educators and is aligned with the principles of the New Education Policy. It is noteworthy that the curriculum at DPSG school is inquiry based where the child is given the freedom to choose the courses that he/she would like to pursue.

The first session on ‘New Education Policy: How does my child benefit’ comprised an erudite panel of Dr. Dinesh Kumar, VC, Gurugram University; dr Krishan Kant Gupta, Principal, Aggarwal PG College, Ballabgarh; Deepti Jagota, Principal, DAV, Sector 37, Faridabad; dr Shabda Bedi, Director, Education Research & Development, DPSGS; and Meenu Chopra, Principal, DPSG Sushant Lok. The panellists stressed upon the role of education in producing not just high achievers but good human beings, and on building a strong research culture in schools and universities. The esteemed interlocutors discussed the linkage between education and technology. Air Vice Marshal LN Sharma AVSM, Director Academics, DPSGS; Major Gen. Datta; Wing Cdr. HC Maan; Representatives from schools, RWAs, HPSC, and prominent organizations were present during the Summit.

The second session on “Preparing students for careers and placements” included an elite panel of corporate leaders including Neeraj Sharma, Director, Estate Management, IGI Airport; Gaurav Vohra, Partner, KPMG; Rakesh Singh, Founder, Associated HR Solutions; dr Veena Singh, Cosmetologist, Lavanya Aesthetics & Beauty Clinic; Saurabh Nagpal and Srividya Sridhar, Principal, DPSG Palam Vihar. Skilling students for the jobs of the future was discussed in detail during the session.

The third panel of leading doctors, guided parents and educators on improving the physical and mental health of students in an evolving external environment. The panel comprised Dr. GP Singh, Sr. VP, Max Healthcare, Saket; dr Smita Srivastava, Pediatrician, QRG Hospital; dr Simmi Manocha, cardiologist, Accord Hospital; dr Tanushree Singh, psychologist; dr Ranjeeta Gupta, Sr. Consultant, Reproductive Medicine, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Medicheck Group of Hospitals and Ms. Ritu Kohli, Principal, DPSG Faridabad.
