KANPUR: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath canceled the trial run of the Kanpur metro on Wednesday, saying that the city’s people will soon have access to the best transportation.
In his address at the trial run of the subway between IIT-Kanpur and Motijheel, he said: “Within the next four to six weeks we will be able to complete the subway test process and start from the Prime Minister for Kanpurites Narendra Modi.”
“In the next four to six weeks, Metro Rail will be the best transportation option for the people of Kanpur,” he said.
According to District Judge Visakh G Iyer, the Kanpur metro will start operating on December 31.
However, the prime minister has instructed that commercial operations of the Kanpur subway should begin between December 15 and 20.
The prime minister said work on the Kanpur metro started on November 15, 2019.
“In the past 19 months, the whole world and country has faced the global pandemic of Covid-19. Despite this challenge, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has accomplished this feat. The central government has also contributed to this entire program,” he said called.
Before that, Kumar Keshav, managing director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, informed the prime minister about the metro project in Kanpur.
In the first phase, the metro will run between the IIT Kanpur and Motijheel over a distance of nine kilometers.
The second phase metro will run between Motijheel and Transport Nagar.
The Samajwadi Party, meanwhile, accused the BJP of having the plans introduced by its regime recognized.
“The foundation stone for the Kanpur Metro was laid on October 4, 2016 in the presence of the then Central Minister Venkaiah Naidu and the then MP Murli Manohar Joshi.
